ABOUT LOBBYISTS

WHAT IS A LOBBYIST?

Lobbyists are specialists uniquely qualified to influence government.  They are typically lawyers, policy experts, former staffers, former government employees, or former members of Congress.

WHY HIRE A LOBBYIST?

Effective lobbyists know how the system works and are best positioned to deliver important messages to Congress – this is why large companies spend billions of dollars every year to hire them. Hear The People gives users access to the same tools to beat special interests at their own game.

WHAT WILL LOBBYISTS DO?

Once a campaign reaches its fundraising goal, Hear The People will engage a vetted lobbyist who is best suited to work on the issue. Each retained lobbyist will be invited to make strategic advocacy recommendations, but generally speaking they will:

  • Reach out to key members of Congress to see where they stand on the issue.
  • Meet one-on-one with staffers to push for the passage or defeat of legislation.
  • Recruit legislative "champions" to help them write and introduce legislation, if none exists.
  • Meet with relevant committee staffers and other key government officials.
  • Team up with other stakeholders to create a coalition so that the work will carry on after the lobbyist’s engagement has been completed.

Users who wish to sign up for updates will receive e-mail alerts, calls to action, and be invited to participate in live interactions with lobbyists to receive information relevant to the campaign.

Hear The People is a for-profit organization that does not seek to influence any issue, but rather act solely as a conduit for change. WHAT CAN I EXPECT? >

The bottom line is that the ability to affect change in Washington is exponentially stronger the larger the public support behind the issue.  Individual campaigns will differ, depending on the selected issue position and the type of action needed to achieve your goal.  If the desired outcome of a campaign is the introduction and passage of new legislation, it can take up to several years.  If the goal is to boost existing advocacy for, or opposition to, existing legislation, it can be done in as little as a few months.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? >

In representing the interests of a client, a lobbyist researches legislative and regulatory proposals, develops effective strategies to advocate the client’s position, monitors and reports on relevant developments, and works with coalitions to coordinate advocacy efforts.
